LONGEVITY IN ASTROLOGY

Every one wishes to have a long life span. Even people in dire straits, given a chance, prefer to live longer. The average life expectancy across the globe and India has gone up manifolds in the last couple of decades. With ever increasing findings and treatment methods, more people gain a considerable life span.

Life span is characterised as very short, short and long. Longer life suggests that it is more than the average life expectancy. There are many types of life expectancies. A human being life span is considered to 120 years although very rarely people reach it.

Life span defined

In ancient classical text of Astrology, the life expectancy is divided into three parts as given below :

1. Short life      0 to 36 years
2. Middle life     36 to 72 tears
3. Long life       72 to 108 years

Combinations

There are innumerable combinations found in ancient text of Astrology.

For Short Life

1. Moon in 8^th, Mars in the 7^th and Rahu in 9^th can cause early death
2. When malefic are in angle to the Moon
3. The Moon is ascendant and malefic in 8^th, 9^th and 12^th.
4. Sun is ascendant with Saturn, Rahu, Mars in the 8^th

The strong position of benefics can bring longer life expectancy.

Medium and Long life span combination

If the benefics and the Lord of ascendant are all posited in kendras, the life of the native may be long. If it is in panaparas or apoklimas, then it will be medium and short life.

Let us look at the friendship (or) otherwise of the following combinations

1. Lord of the house occupied by Moon or Lagna Lord and the eighth from it
2. Lord of the house  and the 8^th from it

If these two pairs are friendly, the native will be long lived. If it is neutral or inimical, it will be medium and short lived respectively.

Saturn is the karaka for longevity. The 3^rd and 8^th houses are responsible for longevity. Conjunction of 8^th Lord with Saturn will give long life. By an exception, if Saturn is posited in the 8^th house also, the native will have long life.

Horary Astrology

If one goes by Vedic Astrology, resorting to Horary Astrology is ideal for estimating the length of life. Although it may not be sensible to a related query but in practice horary Astrology gives positive indicators.

Role of 2^nd and 7^th houses

Death will result by the positioning of 2^nd and 7^th house Lords in the following ways

1. Planets occupying 2^nd and 7^th house
2. Lord of 7^th and 2^nd house
3. Dasa/Bhukthi of the Lords of the 2^nd and 7^th houses

But the Dasa of the 3^rd and 8^th Lord will be still more malefic.

Planets and inducement of death

1. Rahu in 8^th denotes danger of long suffering death
2. Mars by haemorrhage and inflammatory diseases
3. Rahu death by assassination
4. Mars by accidents

When we predict, we have to take a balanced view of the (a) role of houses and (b) role of planets

How, where and when of death are a subject on its own. We would write about that later. Generally, aspect of a benefic or a friendly planet on the 8th house or Lord of the 8^th house will give long life and the opposite if a malefic (or) inimical planet aspects. The calculation of longevity varies for movable signs, dual signs and fix signs.
